Social Tennis

Friday and Sunday mornings 10am – 12 noon.

Social tennis was set up so that anyone can come along and play tennis, regardless of age or ability. We welcome anyone who wants to have a game. The numbers have steadily increased over the last couple of years, and now we regularly get enough people to have two courts of doubles. It’s a very relaxed atmosphere, and you can join in with singles or doubles, depending on who else is there and how many courts are free. It really is fun, and everyone is really friendly.

We have 6 grass courts, available in summer from April to September, depending on weather. There are 2 hard courts, available all year. We play throughout the whole year, weather permitting.

Summer Social Tennis

In the summer months, when the grass courts are available, we can accommodate 24 people, and we have often had a dozen or more. We mix things up, so people get to play against a variety of others of varying standards.

Winter social Tennis

During the winter months, or when the weather prevents play on the grass courts, we play on the 2 hard courts.

If there are too many people, we play ‘tag team’ tennis, where each person plays a point and the next team mate replaces them if they lose the point. There is no scoring, and we just play until we are all too tired, or the sun goes in!

We use mobile app ‘WhatsApp’ to communicate between each other. There is a WhatsApp group, which you will be invited to join. People post messages to share their availability, to arrange matches and any other information that member might be interested in.

Social tennis is free to members of the DLTC. It is just £2 per session for non-members. We would encourage anyone interested to join the club, but it is by no means compulsory.
